Design 101

Design 101

Designing in Context

What does this mean? It means knowing and making design choices that consider the environment marketing assets lives within.

It includes knowing:

  • The media (print, web, email or TV)

  • The device type for online assets (desktop, tablet, mobile and/or TV)

  • The scale an asset is designed for (1x, 2x, 3x or more) vs. its physical dimension

  • If an asset includes overlayed html copy and/or CTAs and its resulting need for clear space

  • If an asset should complement or distinguish itself from other nearby content

  • Where an asset drives to to help ensure design continuity

Why is this important?

Without context (designing to just a spec/dimension), we run the risk of creating assets that are not appropriate, optimized for their intended setting and/or at risk of not meeting performance goals.
